A business client who is part of a team coaching group, related her frustration with her boss about not complying with the openness the team is attempting to practice. She sees her boss as actually slowing down progress since he seems to not have a “heart”.
When we stepped back together to look at the situations where this “heartlessness” seems to be present, I asked her to be curious about what her boss may be afraid of.
In each situation she described, we examined what may be present below the surface, we saw fear. Fear of being vulnerable, being hurt, being embarrassed, being judged and even being fully seen.
In a short time, my client’s heart opened more and was able to find compassion and even empathy for her boss.
She was able to see the connection of fear and negative behavior. She saw how his fear affected hers and how awareness of what is actually going on in any situation can eliminate her fear.
She left our session lighter and more optimistic about the future, since she was able to see the heart of her boss buried under his fear. She also knows what her role will be to assist him on this path that she and her workplace team share.
Love eliminates fear by opening hearts.
